Execution Despite a Lawyer's Argument for DNA Testing
The execution of convicted murderer Arthur Brown Jr. is scheduled for Thursday, despite the contentions made by Brown's legal representatives that recent DNA testing may demonstrate Brown's innocence. They pleaded against being given extra time to complete the tests but to no avail. Kelsey Peregoy, who works in the Office of Capital and Forensic Writs and represents Brown, said that his client's DNA ought to be present on the bedsheets in question because detectives claim Brown used bedsheets to bind six people inside the house on Brownstone Lane on June 20, 1992. Those sheets were never put through any examination. Brown has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing for the last three decades. His lawyers also contend that Brown should not be executed because he has undeniable intellectual limitations, which is another reason why he should not. I think that the lawyer has some points to make. If Brown is guilty, then the DNA will prove it. Read more.
